Asahi (Rising Sun) Birthday Card - English and Spanish.

So, yesterday I went to a friend's birthday party. He practices Aikido and he is a black belt Aikidoka . The first thing that popped into my head was an Aikidogi (Aikido uniform), [I'm googling all these names, there's no way I'd know all this]. At a point the whole clothing thing was discarded and I ended up with a japanese rising sun design. So, here it is.

For this card I used two different shades of American Crafts kraft paper a darker one for thr 4.24 x 5.5 inch notecard. and a lighter shade for the front panel. American Crafts Cardstock is great, it has one smooth side which I used to write on the inside of the card, and  one that is a little rough and textured which is great for paper piecing.

I roughly inked the edges of the white cutout with a Tsukineko dauber and Vintage Photo Distress Ink, as well as the front brown panel. I extended the inking on the lower part of this panel and sprayed a little water to make the inking smooth. then I attached it to the red panel.

I then glued the front kraft paper panel to the black shadow using Aleene's Tacky Glue pen.Getting the small cuts of the A, the P and the O on the right place was done using tweezers. After that, I folded the sides of these two panels following the scoring lines that come with the file, and glued the tabs to the back of the red panel.

The name was done with the font Xiomara by Lauren Thompson, a free font for personal use that you can find here: http://www.dafont.com/xiomara.font.

She has other great fonts on her site too: http://www.nymfont.com/2009/06/fonts.html.
I weaved a baker's twine through the word Ricardo, wrapped it around the front panel.

I put tiny pieces of 3M mounting tape on the back of the word to make it pop and placed it on top of the front panel and tied a knot and bow on the front. I glued the loops with a little dot of tacky glue to make them stay in place.

I attached the black back panel to the notecard with scotch adhesive dots tape and placed the front panel with mounting tape on the back to give it even more dimension.

I decided to add enamel dots for the dots on the Is and I used yellow to give it a little more color.

Hope you like it

The ZIP file comes with the Spanish and English version.
